For the last six years, Pam Marron has advocated for negative equity homeowners to correct short sale, modification and deed in lieu credit coded as a foreclosure on credit reports for conventional mortgages. Marron has worked with the National Consumer Reporting Association (NCRAinc.org), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) on this problem. In June 2016, Marron was appointed to the HUD Housing Counseling Federal Advisory Committee (HCFAC) in Washington, D.C. In May 2017, Marron co-chaired a panel at HUD showing how the foreclosure code wrongly applied to credit of consumers with a past short sale, modification, deed in lieu and excessive mortgage lates on past mortgage credit prevents eligible consumers from getting a new conventional Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac mortgage. The housing counseling industry now provides a solution that can assist affected consumers and is available for loan originators to refer potentially affected clients to ahead of a purchase contract. Points you need to know about this problem and how to successfully use this solution will be briefly explained in this presentation.
