Hensarling Declines Interest in Treasury Post
The chairman of the House Financial Services Committee is swatting away inquiries on becoming the next Secretary of the Treasury.
According to a Reuters report, Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) announced that he will stay on Capitol Hill and seek to work with the new president on an agenda that would include repealing the Dodd-Frank Act in favor of what he called “common sense reforms.” Hensarling’s name was cited on a list of potential cabinet members by the Trump transition team, but the newly re-elected representative insisted he was not changing jobs.
"It's nice to be mentioned, and I certainly want to help our new president make America stronger and more prosperous, but serving in his Cabinet is not something I've indicated an interest in and it's not something I am pursuing," Hensarling said in a statement, adding that he was eager to work as a Trump "ally" in the House.
