Can Commercial Property Trends Determine the Super Bowl Winner?
Football legend-turned-commercial real estate executive Roger Staubach is making his annual prediction for the Super Bowl winner based on the commercial property markets where the rival teams are based.
“This is always an exciting time and it seems like yesterday when I was getting ready for the big game,” said Staubach, executive chairman for JLL America. “The Patriots and Falcons both know how to move the football so it's going to come down to each team's defense and its ability to stop Brady or Ryan. Sunday will be a heck of a game, but this year I think it's going to be the Patriots that win.”
Staubach noted that Boston’s diverse economy has “consistently tracked year-over-year job growth at a rate of two percent,” while nearly three million square feet of large office leases were completed in the fourth quarter of 2016. In comparison, Atlanta was faulted with a fast-rising commercial rental scene that is forcing some companies to move further into the suburban markets for better deals.
However, Staubach’s forecast should not necessarily be seen as infallible: Since he began making predictions in 2011, he accurately predicted the winner nearly 70 percent of the time.
