CSBS Names Michael L. Stevens New Senior EVP

Hands Shaking Pic

Michael L. Stevens has been promoted to the position of senior executive vice president of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). As senior EVP, Stevens will oversee all policy development and financial supervision issues for CSBS. Stevens succeeds John W. Ryan, who was promoted to president and CEO of CSBS on Sept. 1.

Stevens first joined CSBS in 1999, and worked in all facets of the Professional Development Division before being named senior vice president of regulatory policy in 2005. In that capacity, Stevens represented the state regulatory system in the development of federal regulatory policy and served as a liaison between state and federal regulators. Stevens began his career as a bank examiner for the Iowa Division of Banking, a post he held for 11 years. Stevens is a frequent instructor and speaker on bank examination, bank financial analysis, and regulatory issues. He serves on the faculty of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado and the Texas Tech Bank School.

“Mike’s experience, first as a bank examiner and then as head of regulatory policy for CSBS, has provided him with an incredible understanding of financial regulation in the field, and policy development here in Washington, D.C.,” said Ryan. “His technical expertise, his analytical skills, and his familiarity with policy development all enable Mike to clearly interpret the real-world implications policy has upon the financial examination process and the entities regulated by state officials. He is the perfect candidate to lead our policy and supervision efforts.”
