Paul Sarbanes, the ranking minority member on the Senate Banking Committee. Sen. Sarbanes will retire when his term ends next year. Two well-known Democrats, former Congressman Kweisi Mfume and Rep. Benjamin Cardin of Baltimore, are also candidates for the Democratic nomination.
