Michael D. Berman Elected Chairman of the MBA

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has announced the election of Michael D. Berman, CMB, president and chief executive officer of CWCapital of Needham, Mass., as the 2011 chairman of MBA at the association's 97th Annual Convention & Expo in Atlanta. Michael W. Young, chairman of the board of Cenlar FSB was named chairman-elect of the MBA, while, Debra W. Still, CMB, president and chief executive officer of Pulte Mortgage LLC was named vice chair. All three officers will serve for the 2011 membership year.
As chairman, a top item on Berman's agenda is for MBA to continue to play its leadership role in redesigning the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs).
"I am honored to serve our industry as MBA's 2011 Chairman," said Berman. "I look forward to working with MBA's members, board of directors and its dedicated staff to ensure the association remains on the forefront of the major issues facing our industry today. MBA will continue to lead the battle to restructure GSEs with private capital and a new, clearly defined, but limited government role in guaranteeing mortgage-backed securities."
Berman is a founder and member of the board of managers of CWFinancial Services of Needham, Mass., and serves as president and CEO of CWCapital. He currently serves on MBA's board of directors of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council, the Board of MBA and the Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors (COMBOG). He has also served on the Fannie Mae DUS Advisory Council, the MBA Council to Shape Change, and the Executive Committee of the Board of the National Multi Housing Council.
Young is chairman of the board of Cenlar FSB in Ewing, N.J. He has been an active MBA member for more than four decades and currently sits on MBA's Council on Ensuring Mortgage Liquidity, a task force of MBA members created to examine policy options and issue recommendations for the future of the secondary mortgage market. He also currently serves on MBA's Board of Directors, Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and its Strategic Planning Committee.
Still has more than three decades of experience in the mortgage industry and is president and CEO of Pulte Mortgage LLC in Englewood, Colo. Still recently served as chair of MBA's Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and is a member of the MBA Board of Directors. As an active MBA member for more than a decade, Still also has served on MBA's Strategic Planning Committee and was Chair of the MBA Forward Task Force, as well as a member of MBA's Loan Origination Task Force, Affordable Housing Committee and the Secondary and Capital Markets Committee.
