NAMB—The Association of Mortgage Professionals has named Utah mortgage professional John G. Stevens its 2015 Mortgage Professional of the Year. The award, which was presented at the recent NAMB National meeting in Las Vegas, is considered the highest honor a mortgage loan officer can receive in the profession. The award is nominated by and selected from the membership of NAMB.

Stevens is Utah area manager for the Bank of England, based in Draper, Utah. He was also named vice president of NAMB, putting him on track to become president of NAMB in two years.

"I'm extremely humbled to be selected by my fellow mortgage professionals from around the nation for this prestigious honor," said Stevens. "I'm hoping to use this award as a means of inspiring my fellow mortgage pros to get more involved with the events shaping our industry and to make a positive difference on behalf this great profession."

As a member of the NAMB Board of Directors in 2015, Stevens was a lead figure in building the NAMB Political Action Committee and Legislative Action Fund (LAF), two of the key initiatives being undertaken by NAMB as it prepares for the 2016 elections. Under Stevens the two programs established the 'Every Member, Every Year' program designed to drive political participation by mortgage professionals.

"Every member, every year! That's our goal for political participation in the profession," said Stevens. "Our thousands of members only need to donate $100 each year to the PAC and the Legislative Action Fund and our profession will continue to grow as a force to be reckoned with. During NAMB National, we had a fantastic start and expect that momentum to continue. We not only want to be a major force in Congressional and Senate elections, but we intend to carry our message on behalf of consumers and homeowners to the Presidential nominees from both parties by being active at the national party conventions next summer."

During 2015, Stevens served as the first president of NAMB+, a for-profit corporation formed to provide as a benefit to NAMB members discounted products and services. This start up entity is widely viewed as a major success on behalf of members of NAMB and Stevens is considered the key to that success.

"John G. Stevens is a tireless advocate on behalf of mortgage professionals," said Rocke Andrews, president of NAMB. "His leadership within his own business and his infectiously positive attitude on behalf of his peers across the country has earned him this well deserved honor as the Mortgage Professional of the Year. NAMB+ is a major success because John made sure that it was a success. We are very fortunate to have such an energetic and hardworking leader on the NAMB Board taking the initiative on such critical tasks."
