Get Ready for some Spring Cleaning Your Business!!
Getting Spring Fever? It’s Time for some Spring Cleaning!!
Tonight is Day Light Savings Time where we move our clocks up one hour and get the opportunity to lose an hour of sleep but also get to enjoy the sunrise a bit earlier and longer day light throughout the Spring and Summer seasons. It’s also at this time where we start our spring cleaning ritual along with working on our yards that have been neglected all winter.
When it comes to your work/business, now is a great time to do a bit of Spring Cleaning. Here’s a list of things that you can do to get ready for when the market starts heating up for the Spring and Summer months.
1. Practice to perfect your “elevator pitch for yourself and your company”. The elevator speech used to be around 30 seconds. In this age of speed, you need to a have a speech that is no more than 7 seconds. Make sure it’s one that will catch the person’s attention that will make them ask for more information.
2. Contact a top referral partner and ask what they like best—or least—about the service you provide. Review what their goals are for the next quarter and find ways to help them reach their goals.
3. Sift through your email by ‘Sender” and delete unnecessary emails. Save important ones in folders—or set up important “Senders” emails to be automatically stored in an Inbox folder.
4. Make a list of the projects that you want to accomplish in the next quarter. These should be projects that will either improve customer service or greatly improve deficiencies that are currently in your operation/systems.
5. Write a thank you to each of your support staff. These individuals tend to be the unsung heroes of our business success. A little thanks goes a long way.
6. Go through your clothes and give away those that are out of style or you are not wearing often. Bless those that are less fortunate and buy yourself a new suit or outfit. This action can do wonders for your self esteem.
7. Go through your professional magazines and cut out the articles that you want to refer back to. File them, send them to those who would benefit from them.
8. Organize your desk or your computer’s desk top to stay ahead of the clutter.
9. Organize or input your collected business cards.
10. Send a handwritten note to two people every day in the Spring and Summer months. This is a wonderful habit to get into.
11. Write in your journal every day expressing your hopes, challenges, risks, fears, struggles or joy that you are facing and what you have learned from them.
12. Surf the internet researching a topic of professional development. Also use this time researching potential referral power partners for your business.
13. Pick up the phone and cold call the most successful person you can think of and ask them probing questions.
14. Schedule one hour appointments with yourself throughout the spring and summer month’s calendar so you can protect time slots for yourself to use to work “on” your business.
15. Call your local college or university’s business department and ask for the details of hiring an intern for the upcoming months.
16. Create or update the signature file in your email program.
17. Set up a text file on your computer that answers the three most common questions you get on a regular basis so you can copy-paste-send.
18. Review your written goals that you set at the beginning of the year. Revise them if necessary.
19. Clean out one drawer in your desk weekly.
20. Go through your book case and clean out any books that you don’t refer to. See if the local library could use them, put them on eBay or bring them to your office and see if anyone would like to read them.
Happy Spring Cleaning and have a wonderful week!!
