NAMB state affiliates pitch in for Toys for TotsMortgagePress.com$10,000-plus, United States Marine Corps, Major Hendricks' campaign $10,000-plus raised for 59th annual toy drive This past December, several National Association of Mortgage Brokers state affiliates took part in regional holiday parties, co-sponsored by The Mortgage Press Ltd., and in the process, raised in excess of $10,000 for the United States Marine Corps 59th Annual Toys for Tots program and deserving children. The goal of the program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the holiday season to distribute to less fortunate children for the holidays. The program was launched back in 1947 by U.S. Marine Major Bill Hendricks and a group on Marine reservists in Los Angeles who collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy L.A. area children. Due to the success of Major Hendricks' campaign, the U.S. Marine Corps adopted the program in 1948 and have sponsored it ever since. The 2006 Mortgage Broker Holiday Networking Parties, held in California, Georgia, New York, Ohio and Texas, featured a day of networking, seminars with NAMB Board members and reps from the NAMB state affiliate host state, and a holiday celebration to cap off the day. During the party, members of the U.S. Marine Corps were on hand to collect both new, unwrapped toys and monetary donations for the Toys for Tots program. Many thanks to the board members and volunteers from the California, Georgia, New York, Ohio and Texas Associations of Mortgage Brokers for their contributions to the 59th Toys for Tots campaign.
