MBA elects 2009 officers in San Diego

Oct 12, 2009

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has announced the election of Robert E. Story Jr., CMB, president and chief executive officer of Seattle Financial Group, as the 2010 chairman of MBA at the association's 96th Annual Convention & Expo in San Diego. Michael D. Berman, CMB, president and chief executive officer of CWCapital was named chairman-elect of MBA, while Michael W. Young, Chairman of the Board of Cenlar FSB, was named vice chairman. All three officers will serve for the 2009-2010 membership year. Story's agenda on behalf of the real estate finance industry will focus on the association's legislative and regulatory goals, including ensuring that the restructuring of the regulatory system does not create conflicting and contradictory regulatory regimes that further confuse both lenders and borrowers and continued support of a uniform national lending standard to eliminate the patchwork of state and local laws. Under Story's leadership, MBA will also continue to reach out to consumers via its consumer education Web site, Home Loan Learning Center at www.homeloanlearningcenter.com, which features the Foreclosure Prevention Resource Center in which borrowers who are having trouble making their payments can learn more about their options. "I am honored to serve our industry as MBA's 2010 chairman," said Robert E. Story, CMB. "During these uncharted times, I look forward to working with MBA's members, board of directors and its dedicated staff to ensure the association remains on the forefront of the major issues facing our industry today so that we can restore confidence and stability to the market, and rebuild America's trust in the real estate finance system." Story is president and CEO of Seattle Financial Group in Seattle, Wash. He has been an active member of the MBA for over two decades and currently serves on its Board of Directors. He is also a former Chairman of MBA's Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG). He has also served as president of the Washington Mortgage Lenders Association and on several MBA committees including MORPAC, MBA's political action committee. Rob is a graduate of MBA's Future Leaders Program. Berman is a founder and principal of CWFinancial Services of Needham, Mass. and sits on the company's board of directors. He is also the president and CEO of CWCapital, the company's multifamily and commercial lending and servicing subsidiary. Berman currently serves on MBA's Board of Directors, Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors (COMBOG) and the 2008 Fannie Mae DUS Advisory Council. He also served on MBA's Audit Committee and chaired the Strategic Planning Committee in 2007 and chairs MBA's Council on Ensuring Mortgage Liquidity. Young is chairman of the board of Cenlar FSB. He has been an active MBA member for more than four decades and currently sits on MBA's Council on Ensuring Mortgage Liquidity, a task force of MBA members created to examine policy options and issue recommendations for the future of the secondary mortgage market. He also currently serves on MBA's Board of Directors, Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and its Strategic Planning Committee. For more information, visit MortgageBankers.org.
