The Real Estate Services Providers Council (RESPRO) will host its second consecutive year of RESPA Regulatory Compliance Seminars with two of the nation's top Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) experts, Jay Varon of Foley & Lardner LLP and Phillip Schulman of K&L Gates LLP, on Nov. 15 in Los Angeles and Nov. 17 in Chicago.
Featured guest speakers from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) will be RESPA & Interstate Land Sales Director Bart Shapiro at the Nov. 15 seminar in Los Angeles (invited) and HUD General Counsel Helen Kanovsky at the Nov. 17 seminar in Chicago.
"RESPRO chose to host these RESPA Seminars because this has been a groundbreaking year in the RESPA regulatory arena," said RESPRO Executive Sue Johnson. She pointed to the HUD's Jan. 1, 2010 roll-out of its new Good Faith Estimate (GFE) and HUD-1 Settlement Statement, a new federal law that transfers RESPA regulation and enforcement to a new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in 2011, and two new RESPA rulemakings on marketing agreements and homebuilder incentives.
The seminar will focus on the present and future impact of these and other 2010 RESPA regulatory developments on real estate brokers, mortgage lenders, title companies, and other settlement service providers that are regulated under RESPA. There will be an open question-and-answer period for attendees to ask the speakers their most pressing RESPA compliance questions.
