Jun 09, 2011

eLynx, a portfolio company of American Capital, has announced that the company had served as a Silver Sponsor for City Year’s Starry Starry Night annual benefit gala in San Jose, Calif. on May 19. The event celebrates the power of young people to make a difference with a festive night of exceptional cuisine and inspirational speakers. City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors and role models, these diverse young leaders help children stay in school and on track, and transform schools and communities across the United States, as well as through international affiliates in Johannesburg, South Africa and London, England. “This is a very worthy organization and we are very pleased with the results these volunteers are creating in their communities,” said Sharon Matthews, president and chief executive officer of eLynx. “We were proud to sponsor this event and plan to continue to support this important organization going forward.” City Year corps members serve full-time as tutors and mentors in schools, running after-school programs, leading and developing youth leadership programs and vacation camps to make a difference in the lives of children and their communities. Although most of the corps experience revolves around working with kids, members also help rebuild neighborhoods and perform a variety of transformative physical service projects. For their efforts, during their year of service corps, members develop civic leadership skills they can use throughout a lifetime of community service. Major corporations and businesses participate in the organization’s mission by serving as strategic partners, team sponsors, and national leadership sponsors. More than 350 citizen supporters, business and community leaders attended the Starry Starry Night event.
