MBA: Apps See 2.7 Percent Decline Over Last Week

Mortgage applications decreased 2.7 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association's Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending June 24, 2011. The Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, decreased 2.7 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the Index decreased three percent compared with the previous week. The Refinance Index decreased 2.6 percent from the previous week. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index decreased three percent from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased 3.8 percent compared with the previous week and was 4.5 percent higher than the same week one year ago. The four week moving average for the seasonally adjusted Market Index is up 0.7 percent. The four week moving average is down 1.5 percent for the seasonally adjusted Purchase Index, while this average is up 1.5 percent for the Refinance Index. The refinance share of mortgage activity increased to 69.5 percent of total applications from 69.2 percent the previous week. The adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) share of activity decreased to 5.8 percent from 5.9 percent of total applications from the previous week. The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 4.46 percent from 4.57 percent, with points increasing to 1.19 from 0.91 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent loan-to-value (LTV) ratio loans. This is the lowest 30-year rate recorded in the survey since the middle of November 2010. The effective rate also decreased from last week. The average contract interest rate for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 3.64 percent from 3.70 percent, with points increasing to 1.11 from 1.05 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. This is the lowest 15-year rate recorded in the survey since the beginning of November 2010. The effective rate also decreased from last week.
