As the summer draws to a close, the California city of Vallejo is retaining its spot as the hottest housing market in the nation, according to data released by Realtor.com.

In its August lineup of the most vibrant housing locations, Vallejo is among 11 California markets in Realtor.com’s top 20 list, with Dallas, Denver, San Francisco and Stockton, Calif., rounding out the five highest positions.

Realtor.com also reported that median home price listed on its site for August, $250,000, remained unchanged from July, but was eight percent higher than a year ago. It also represented the highest price ever recorded for August.

“Realtor.com’s traffic growth has been particularly strong in August, even surpassing record highs set in July, making this an extended summer with unprecedented interest in buying,” said Jonathan Smoke, Realtor.com’s chief economist. “With the school year starting now in most of the country, we’re seeing some drop-off in immediate buying interest. The current conditions provide more opportunity for any frustrated buyers still in the market to face less competition as we close out the summer.”
