HUD Confirms Paul Compton as HUD General Counsel
The U.S. Senate confirmed Paul Compton to serve as general counsel of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Compton was previously a partner and chairman of the finance committee at the Birmingham, Ala.-based law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, and also served as outside general counsel of the Alabama Affordable Housing Association. He is a former state chairman of the American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development.
Compton was confirmed in a 62-34 vote, with four senators not present for the voting. Ten Democrats and one Independent crossed the aisle to support the nomination.
“Paul’s extensive background in real estate and housing finance will be a tremendous asset to this department as we continue to support our nation’s housing markets and our state and local partners recovering from recent disasters,” said HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson. “I look forward to adding Paul’s expertise to our highly experienced senior team.”
