University of Windsor partners with Rocket Innovation Studios to foster a pipeline of highly trained professionals who will help advance finance technology.

The University of Windsor partnered with Rocket Innovation Studios to foster a pipeline of highly trained professionals who will help advance finance technology. Rocket Innovation Studios delivers a series of workshops for students in the Master of Applied Computing (MAC) program. All workshops focus exclusively on advancing finance technology (FinTech), which is a rapidly growing field in Ontario, CA.

Jasen Sams, vice president of Rocket Innovation Studio, said, “With our growing presence in the Windsor tech community, Rocket Innovation Studio is playing a key role in preparing students for a successful future. Students will see real-life examples of the concepts they are learning in the classroom and experience first-hand how technology can improve experiences for consumers across North America.”

The first four online workshops began on June 18, 2021, and anybody in the University computer science program would have been eligible to enroll.

The Rocket Innovation Studio opened in 2019 to contribute to Windsor’s downtown revitalization. The company provides tech services to businesses, including data and product development. As part of the Rocket Companies, Rocket Innovation Studio serves the tech needs of other FinTech enterprises, such as Rocket Mortgage, Rocket Homes, and Rocket Auto.

Ziad Kobti, director of UWindsor's School of Computer Science, said, “This is an exceptional opportunity for our students. We are creating a connection with the FinTech industry. Rocket Innovation Studio is looking for tremendous talent, and we are training our students to match industry's needs."

Students will also be given the option to specialize in artificial intelligence to address the national shortage of skilled workers in computing and data science. More than 94% of the students in the program receive paid internships and 100% find employment upon graduation.

"This is an elite program that arms students with the advanced computing skills that are in demand by industry," Kobti added.
