New American Funding Reports Data Breach Linked to Vendor
Breach could include borrowers’ financial information, company states in notice
Independent mortgage lender and servicer New American Funding, LLC reported a data breach potentially affecting customer information after one of its vendors suffered a cybersecurity incident, according to a notice filed with the California Attorney General.
The breach is tied to a vendor that provided notary services for the mortgage lender. “On June 6, 2025, we learned about suspicious activity associated with information provided to one of our vendors that provided notary services,” the company stated in the consumer notice.
While New American’s own systems and data were not affected, the company said that “an unauthorized actor gained access to systems containing New American Funding consumer data and may have taken documents.”
Though the vendor — identified as Mobile Notary Zone (MNZ) — has provided little detail about the breach, New American conducted an internal review and identified customers whose information had been shared with the vendor. The review was completed on June 26, 2025.
New American didn't provide specifics regarding how many of its customers the breach potentially may have affected. But the affected documents, the company noted, were related to loan closings, and may include borrowers’ names and “all or some combination of the following data elements: address, Social Security number, date of birth, financial account information, and other personal financial information.”
Out of “an abundance of caution,” New American Funding said it is notifying potentially affected individuals, even though it could not confirm whether their information was actually compromised.
In response to the breach, “all services provided by MNZ were immediately terminated upon discovery of this incident,” New American stated. “We also notified law enforcement and federal regulators and have been complying with their inquiries.”
To assist affected individuals, the company noted it is offering complimentary membership to Experian IdentityWorks, which includes credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and $1 million in identity theft insurance.
New American Funding encouraged consumers to remain vigilant for signs of fraud or identity theft and to monitor their credit reports and financial accounts over the next 12 to 24 months.
