Rate Brings On Top LO Torrey Jacoby As VP Of Mortgage

Jacoby switches to Rate after seven-year tenure because of originator support, tech, and sales culture, EVP says
Mortgage lending and digital financial services provider, Rate Companies, has hired Torrey Jacoby as a vice president of mortgage, to be based in Houston, Texas. Jacoby’s a top 1% originator both locally and nationally and brings more than a decade of experience and a track record of consistent production, having closed over $62 million in home loans in 2024.
As Rate continues its focus on growth in Texas and nationally, Jacoby’s “customer-first approach” and roots in the Houston market “are a strong match for [the company’s] fintech-powered, loan officer–driven model,” Rate stated in a release. Headquartered in Chicago, Rate has more than 850 branches in all 50 states and Washington D.C. The company was launched at the turn of the millennium in 2000.
Why, exactly, did Jacoby make the switch, after some seven-plus years as a sales manager and LO at private residential mortgage lender Network Funding, LP in Houston? According to Todd Heaton, Rate’s executive vice president, West Division manager, Jacoby was swayed by Rate’s rich support for its originators, technology, and sales culture.
“Main reason Torrey decided to join Rate was, he has plateaued in his business,” Heaton said in a post on LinkedIn. “And, while he does an amazing amount of business every year … he did a deep dive with us, really talked to a lot of our top originators — he talked to Shant Banosian, number-one originator in America, president now of Rate — and … not only is it the support that we provide so our originators can get out of the weeds and be rainmakers, but the technology, the sales culture, that we truly dive in and help our folks with coaching and mentoring to help you grow your business to whatever level that you want to.”
“I’ve always believed that customer service is the foundation of long-term success in this business,” stated Jacoby. “That’s how you earn referrals for life. After seven great years at my previous company, I knew it was time to make a move to a platform built for top producers, with the tools and support to take things to the next level.”
Torrey began his mortgage career in Houston in 2011. He has been a President's Club winner for the past 10 years, according to Rate, and has built his business on “trust, responsiveness, and results.” He lives in Houston with his wife, Victoria (Tori) and their two children, five-year-old Hudson and two-year-old Georgie.
“We’re proud to have him on board,” Heaton said. “I am so excited to welcome Torrey Jacoby to our Rate team.”
