Union Home Mortgage (UHM), an independent mortgage banking company based in Strongville, Ohio, has announced the hiring of three partners in the Greater Birmingham, Ala., region.

UHM said it has hired Carl Douglas as a producing branch manager, and Michelle Benefield Smith and Mark Moates as loan officers in the Greater Birmingham region. They will help produce, manage, and originate loans for homebuyers in Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Homewood, Hoover, and the Greater Birmingham area.

As the producing branch manager, Douglas is also responsible for managing the new Birmingham branch.

“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to work for an organization like Union Home Mortgage,” Douglas said. “I am thrilled to continue my existing relationships with past clients and realtors, while also building new relationships with first-time homebuyers.”

Smith said she looks forward “to continuing to build relationships with homebuyers in our local communities. I am most looking forward to helping UHM expand into this part of the country.”

Douglas and Smith have a combined 21 years of mortgage industry experience. Before joining UHM, Douglas served as a loan officer at FirstBank Mortgage. Smith is also experienced in working with Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veteran’s Affairs (VA), and Rural Development loans.

Moates is also an industry veteran, with over 10 years of experience as a loan officer. Before joining UHM, he served as a loan officer at organizations including TJC Mortgage Inc. and FirstBank.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mark to the UHM team,” Union Home President and CEO Bill Cosgrove said. “We look forward to utilizing his experience to further grow and develop our services to meet the needs of homebuyers in this region. Mark’s industry insight and genuine excitement for all buyers are valuable assets for the continued success of Union Home Mortgage in Alabama.”

“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to work for an organization like Union Home Mortgage,” Moates said. “I look forward to being a part of a great team of industry professionals and building relationships with not only other partners, but homebuyers in the area.”
