Freddie Mac recently announced that the National Association of Mortgage Brokers has been named a Financial Literacy Business Partner of the Year.
The award, which was revealed at a financial literacy symposium in Washington, D.C., recognized the associations ongoing programs to promote financial literacy for Americans of all ages.
We appreciate the attention Freddie Mac has given to our efforts to increase financial literacy, said NAMB President Harry H. Dinham, CMC. NAMB believes consumer knowledge is the key to solving many of the challenges within the mortgage industry today, and we are supporting several new education efforts within our membership and in the communities where we live and work.
In addition to NAMB, the Texas Association of Mortgage Brokers also received an honorable mention in the Successful Approaches to Motivating Consumers category for its Making Home Possible program.
The Making Home Possible program combines grassroots outreach by volunteers, local elected officials and media outlets with an incentive program that includes free meals and credit scores to increase attendance at financial education classes. The programs 2006 goal was to train 200 Texans through CreditSmarta financial literacy seminar that teaches consumers the benefits of understanding, building and maintaining good credit.
Dinham congratulated TAMB for its leadership in spreading financial literacy.
TAMBs program is but one example of brokers across the country working in their communities to help homebuyers make the right decision about their mortgage, said Dinham. I encourage all of our affiliates to continue the national effort to bring quality financial education opportunities to their states.
U.S. Reps. Spencer Bachus (Alabama), Judy Biggert (Illinois), RubÃ©n Hinojosa (Texas), Mike Honda (California) and Mel Watt (North Carolina) were all presented with the Champion Award for their legislative and personal efforts to advance financial literacy.
At the national level, NAMB has worked with these and other congressional leaders to promote financial literacy as part of a robust program for educating consumers on the importance of good credit and other aspects of the home-buying process.
