The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a participant in the government-wide Identity Theft Task Force, has put on its Web site a direct link to the new, centralized government Web site on identity theft, www.idtheft.gov.
The site, launched on April 23, provides the task force's strategic plan, which represents the input of 17 federal agencies, including the FDIC. The plan sets out recommendations to prevent identity theft, assist identity theft victims and prosecute and punish identity thieves.
The FDIC is a United States government corporation created by the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, which insures savings and checking deposit accounts in member banks up to $100,000 per depositor. For more information, call (877) 275-3342 or visit www.fdic.gov.
