Zillow Reports 0.25 Increase in 30-Year Fixed Rates

Jul 09, 2014

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace is currently 4.03 percent, up five basis points from this time last week. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate steadily increased last week, spiking to 4.26 percent on Friday before declining to the current rate over the weekend. "Last week, rates jumped after the jobs report exceeded expectations by a wide margin, lifting rates to three-month highs heading into the holiday weekend," said Erin Lantz, vice president of mortgages at Zillow. "On Monday we saw rates fall sharply and expect they will continue to drift slightly lower as the exuberance of the jobs report fades." Zillow's real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers on the Zillow Mortgage Marketplace site, and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey. The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 3.04 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 2.81 percent.
