Buffett: Trump "Deserves Everyone's Respect"

Nov 11, 2016
It’s not common for a housing and mortgage industry executive to be the subject of a nationally broadcast biographical documentary. But, then again, not every housing and mortgage industry executive is Warren Buffett

One of Donald Trump’s greatest housing industry critics is calling on the country to “coalesce” behind the President-Elect.

In a CNN interview, Berkshire Hathaway CEO acknowledged his vocal support of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, but stressed that the incoming president is deserving of being treated in a respectful manner.

“I support any president of the United States,” said Buffett. “It's very important that the American people coalesce behind the president. That doesn't mean they can't criticize him or they can't disagree with what he's doing maybe. But we need a country unified. He deserves everybody's respect.”

Buffett added that he had doubts over some of Trump's claims on how the economy would respond under his leadership.

"Nobody can grow the economy four percent in real terms over time," Buffett said. "The math is too extraordinary."

Buffett added that while he believed Trump’s success in the private sector was strong in licensing and promoting his name, his record in running some of his businesses was less than stellar. Still, this did not bother him.

"I don't have to worry about him running a business anymore," he said, noting that President Harry Truman ran a failed haberdashery store before entering politics and that "he turned out to be a terrific president."
