For Sale: RichardCordray.com

Sep 26, 2017
In a very rare appearance before the nation’s largest mortgage industry trade group, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray congratulated himself for predicting the success of his agency’s rules and guidelines

The ongoing will-he/won’t-he speculation on whether Richard Cordray will prematurely exit his directorship at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in pursuit of the Democratic nomination for governor of Ohio seems to be leaning to the won’t-he side thanks to a casual peek at Internet domain registration.

According to GoDaddy.com, the URL for RichardCordray.com is available for sale at $25,000. If Cordray were to seek the Ohio’s governorship—and, perhaps, use that to leverage a return to Washington for the 2020 presidential race—having a URL based on his name would be necessary for online messaging and connecting with potential voters. Having the URL open is also surprising because several anti-Cordray factions have registered Cordray2018.com and RichardCordray2018.com ahead of next year’s election.

Cordray has yet to offer any public clue on whether he will serve out his CFPB term, despite direct questioning from Capitol Hill Republicans on his career plans.
