Football Icon Emmitt Smith in New Real Estate Venture
Former Dallas Cowboys star and Football Hall of Fame member Emmitt Smith is returning to the commercial real estate industry with a new joint venture.
According to a Dallas Morning News report, Smith formed a commercial property firm in partnership with New York-based Newmark Group that will concentrate on brokerage, development and construction services. Smith had previously been the head of a Dallas commercial real estate brokerage called E. Smith Realty Partners, but left last summer after four years—the company was re-branded as ESRP.
Smith said the new firm, which has yet to be formally named, will operate in several markets and employ up to 100 people. "I'm completely committed to the real estate business," Smith stated. "We are reengaging back into the commercial brokerage services space."
Newmark and its London-based partner Knight Frank have more than 400 company-owned and independent offices spread across six continents. The company, a subsidiary of BGC Partners, had its first $280 million public stock offering in New York last month, and Smith was a prominent guest at the ringing of Nasdaq opening bell that signaled the start of trading.
