Equity Prime Mortgage has appointed David Abrahamson chief risk officer, bringing back an executive who previously spent 10 years with the Atlanta-based wholesale lender.

Abrahamson has approximately 40 years of experience in the mortgage industry, spanning risk, operations, credit, and sales. He will oversee EPM’s credit, underwriting, regulatory, and investor-related risk functions from the company’s Atlanta headquarters.

His initial priorities will include assessing the lender’s current risk environment, strengthening internal controls, and reviewing whether its policies and procedures align with agency, investor, state, and federal requirements.

“Effective risk management starts with meeting the expectations of every regulator and investor we work with, whether that is HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the CFPB, state regulators, or our capital markets partners,” Abrahamson said. “My responsibility is to understand exactly where we are today, identify where changes are needed, and help build the processes and accountability required to create long-term success.”

Abrahamson first joined EPM in 2010 and remained with the company through 2020. During that period, EPM developed from a predominantly retail, refinance-focused operation into a more diversified mortgage lender with an expanding branch network and wholesale presence. The company now operates exclusively through the wholesale channel.

EPM Founder and CEO Eddy G. Perez Jr. said Abrahamson’s familiarity with the company and its operations will help strengthen its credit culture and support sustainable growth.

“David understands EPM because he helped build EPM,” Perez said. “He knows our history, he knows our people, and he knows what strong risk management looks like inside this organization.”

Abrahamson will work across EPM’s credit, compliance, underwriting, operations, and capital markets teams. His responsibilities will include improving coordination around underwriting standards, credit policy, quality management, and regulatory expectations.

EPM President and Partner Phil Mancuso said Abrahamson will also help connect the lender’s risk management practices with its capital markets and investor objectives.

“His ability to connect underwriting discipline, regulatory expectations, borrower outcomes, and investor confidence makes him the right leader for this role and an important addition to EPM’s executive team,” Mancuso said.

Abrahamson said his approach will emphasize loan quality while supporting consistent execution for EPM’s mortgage broker partners.

“The goal is quality in and quality out,” Abrahamson said. “We want to make good loans, serve our partners well, and deliver production that earns trust.”
