Seeks to eliminate manual submissions.
In a move to simplify the case cancellation and reinstatement process, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) today announced the launch of a new functionality within the FHA Connection (FHAC) system. This new feature allows lenders to process case cancellations and reinstatements directly through the case cancel/reinstate screen, and in the near future, through the business to government (B2G) connection.
The new functionality primarily aims to remove unnecessary manual request submissions, giving lenders increased flexibility and efficiency in managing their case processing needs within FHAC. By avoiding manual submission to the FHA Resource Center for most requests, the process becomes more streamlined and less dependent on FHA intervention.
However, exceptions that still require FHA staff intervention will be guided accordingly by the FHAC. These exceptions include situations where the upfront mortgage insurance premium (UFMIP) on the case was paid, the case was endorsed, or if the case was automatically canceled. In such instances, mortgagees will be directed to submit requests using the appropriate template on the Single Family Case Processing Requirements web page, accessible starting Aug. 14, 2023.
However, to facilitate a smooth transition, its use will be optional for a 90-day period. After this transition phase, starting Nov. 7, 2023, mortgagees will be required to submit case cancellations and reinstatements solely through FHAC.
For those utilizing the B2G connection, the new functionality will be implemented soon. B2G lenders will be notified of the specific implementation date and will be provided with an updated B2G guide reflecting the new functionality.
FHA connection application coordinators are tasked with granting the necessary authority to users responsible for performing the case cancellation and reinstatement functions.
The introduction of this functionality signifies FHA's continued commitment to enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of its processes for mortgagees. By largely removing manual submission requirements and providing a more direct method for handling case cancellations and reinstatements, the FHA has taken a significant step toward modernizing its operations and reducing the administrative burden on lenders.
