Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac among 842 businesses cited by Human Rights Campaign Foundation

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and all 12 Federal Reserve Banks are among more than 800 organizations recognized as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF).

The HRCF’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices, and benefits that pertain to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees.

The CEI rates more than 1,000 companies on detailed criteria under four central pillars: non-discrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility.

In all, 842 businesses met all of the criteria to earn a 100% rating and the designation as a “Best Place” for 2022, including both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs), as well as the Federal Reserve Banks in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Kansas City, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, San Francisco, and Saint Louis.

Other businesses to receive a 100 rating include First American Financial Corp., Redfin Corp., and Zillow Group.

According to the HRCF, top-rated employers “come from nearly every industry and region of the United States” To earn a top rating, the employers “took concrete steps to establish and implement comprehensive policies, benefits, and practices that ensure greater equity for LGBTQ+ workers and their families.”

Fannie Mae CEO Hugh R. Frater said recognition from the HR$CF “underscores Fannie Mae's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Our diverse workforce and inclusive practices are foundational to who we are. They are a fundamental source of our corporate strength and our business competitiveness.”

He said Fannie Mae’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion advances the company’s longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and industry.
