NAMB—The Association of Mortgage Professionals has announced today that John Yeager, branch manager of Summit Mortgage in Valley Center, Calif., has won the first NAMB Social Media Contest. Over the past several months, mortgage professionals from across the country have been encouraged to tell the world what makes them a mortgage professional and to use the #MortgagePro hashtag when they do. NAMB has monitored the use of the #MortgagePro hashtag using the popular Woobox.com platform and record nearly 2,000 entries. From that list of entries, John Yeager was randomly selected using the Woobox tool.

"I love being a mortgage professional and I'm thrilled to be chosen as the winner of the first #MortgagePro social media contest. I have been a NAMB supporter for 31 years, so this is amazing" said Yeager. "It's great to know that NAMB is not only advocating for our issues in Washington, D.C. but also helping to build a community among mortgage professionals and consumers across the country."

John Councilman, president of NAMB, praised Yeager and the association for engaging in social media to educate consumers, policymakers and fellow industry professionals about what it means to be a mortgage professional.

"The NAMB #MortgagePro Social Media contest was a fun way for mortgage broker and mortgage banker originators to tell the world that they are licensed mortgage professionals," said Councilman. "At NAMB—The Association of Mortgage Professionals, we want consumers to remember that when they are planning to buy or refinance a home, they should use a Mortgage Professional...a member of NAMB. Our initial foray into social media was intended to be fun and we definitely succeeded in doing that. But as we address the serious issues of making the homebuying process more affordable for lower and moderate income consumers, we will build on the sense of community we're developing online and in communities across the country. When you are buying a home, which is for many Americans one of the most important financial decisions in their lifetimes, you want to be working with a mortgage professional. NAMB is working day and night to spread the word that we represent mortgage professionals and consumers. We encourage our members to continue to use the #MortgagePro hashtag on social media."
