GetWyz Targets First-Time Buyers Before They Reach An LO
The MoneyGuide founder’s free planning app helps buyers map when they could afford a home, with an optional handoff to its wholly owned brokerage
GetWyz, a free homeownership planning platform founded by MoneyGuide creator Bob Curtis, launched today on iOS and the web to help first-time buyers estimate when they could afford a home, explore financing options, and plan for expenses after closing.
The platform also offers an optional path to GetWyz Mortgage, its wholly owned brokerage — connecting early financial preparation with a potential mortgage provider before buyers begin shopping for a loan.
GetWyz owns 100% of GetWyz Mortgage LLC, which states that referrals to the brokerage may provide the parent company a financial or other benefit, although consumers are not required to use the brokerage.
That structure gives GetWyz an opportunity to establish relationships with aspiring buyers during their financial preparation and offer mortgage services when those consumers move toward a purchase.
From Financial Planning To Financing
The platform’s central feature is a “HomeOwner Day,” the month and year GetWyz estimates a user could be financially ready to buy. Users can adjust their target home price and other assumptions to see how different decisions affect that timeline.
“People get plenty of help planning for retirement, but almost nobody helps them plan for a home. That’s why I built GetWyz,” said Curtis, the company’s CEO and founder.
GetWyz says its proprietary WyzCalc engine evaluates income, debt, savings, credit, and spending across scenarios using generic mortgage options. The platform does not pull credit; it uses the credit score entered by the consumer.
The resulting timeline is a planning estimate. Actual financing eligibility remains subject to a lender’s review of the borrower, documentation, property, and applicable loan requirements.
When users are ready to pursue financing, GetWyz says they can choose any lender. Those who select GetWyz Mortgage can authorize the transfer of information to the brokerage to help start the process.
GetWyz’s recruiting materials show how the platform connects to its brokerage. A mortgage originator posting says employees will use GetWyz technology and buyer data “rather than relying on cold calling or self-sourced lead generation.” The brokerage lists licenses or registrations in 25 states, including California, Florida, Texas, and Virginia.
The approach puts GetWyz into the competition for buyer relationships before a loan application — a strategy NMP previously explored in coverage of Zillow’s personalized buyer hub, which connects affordability planning, financing information, and transaction milestones.
Homeownership And Retirement Tradeoffs
GetWyz also enters a sensitive part of the affordability conversation: how much buyers should redirect from other financial goals to purchase a home.
Its interactive PlayPlan feature lets users explore strategies including paying points versus making a larger down payment, redirecting 401(k) contributions, taking a 401(k) loan, or making an IRA withdrawal.
“People are told to put every extra dollar into their retirement accounts, without ever being asked what they want that money to do for them,” Curtis said. “If owning a home is one of their goals, it deserves a plan too, and that’s what GetWyz builds.”
For originators, those scenarios create an opening for substantive conversations about cash to close, monthly payments, reserves, and the borrower’s broader financial priorities. Moving a projected purchase date forward is one consideration; preserving financial flexibility after closing is another.
GetWyz says it uses AI to improve the experience but excludes it from affordability calculations and recommendations. An Android app is planned for 2027.
