Company strengthens technology leadership as it looks to industrialize factory-built housing and expand production through proposed SPAC deal

Boxabl has appointed Shanmugam “Shan” Palaniappan chief technology officer, bringing a veteran fintech and enterprise software executive into the modular housing startup as it prepares for its next phase of growth. The Las Vegas-based construction technology company states Palaniappan will lead its technology strategy as Boxabl expands automation, artificial intelligence, and software-driven manufacturing across its factory-built housing platform.

The appointment comes as the company pursues a proposed merger with FG Merger II Corp., a special purpose acquisition company listed on Nasdaq under the ticker FGMC. If completed, the transaction is expected to provide Boxabl additional capital and strategic flexibility as it expands manufacturing capacity and product offerings.

Palaniappan most recently served as senior vice president of engineering at Sagent, a mortgage servicing and fintech platform recognized as a HousingWire Tech100 company. In that role, he oversaw infrastructure and enterprise architecture as the company expanded its digital mortgage servicing platform. His background also includes leadership roles at artificial intelligence firm DataRobot, where he served as CTO of the company’s SaaS platform, and nearly a decade at Salesforce, including time at Demandware, where he worked on high-performance platform engineering and enterprise architecture.

“Shan brings the ideal blend of technical expertise and real-world experience to help rewire Boxabl into an AI-native company,” said Paolo Tiramani, co-chief executive officer of Boxabl. Tiramani said the company plans to integrate real-time data and embedded intelligence across multiple functions, including sales forecasting, cost modeling, land feasibility analysis, and supply chain management.

“The exponential growth of software is happening so fast it’s critical for us to parse the value of these emerging tools and implement those features that can be most valuable to our organization,” Tiramani said.

Founded in 2017, Boxabl has drawn significant attention for its modular housing concept, which aims to address housing shortages by manufacturing homes in factory settings rather than building them entirely on-site. The company’s flagship product, the Casita, is a 361-square-foot studio-style unit with a full kitchen and bathroom that can be transported to a site and unfolded in less than one hour. The company has also introduced the “Baby Box,” a smaller 120-square-foot unit built to RV code for simplified installation.

Boxabl has said it is also developing stackable and connectable housing modules that could be combined to create townhomes, multifamily housing, or larger single-family residences. Palaniappan holds two master’s degrees — one from Harvard University and another from Tennessee State University — and earned his undergraduate degree at Annamalai University in India.
