Wholesale lenders can standardize income, employment, and asset verification while keeping the broker’s name in front of the borrower

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • Verification requests display the broker’s name and contact information instead of presenting an unfamiliar lender or technology company as the borrower’s point of contact.
  • Wholesale lenders can configure the system once and deploy broker-specific invitations across their TPO networks.

Argyle is extending its mortgage verification platform to the wholesale channel with a borrower experience carrying the mortgage broker’s name and contact information.

The new capability allows wholesale lenders to deploy Argyle’s income, employment, and asset verification across their broker networks through a single configuration. Borrowers receive verification requests branded to the broker handling their loan, while the wholesale lender receives the resulting documentation for underwriting.

The solution is available through Argyle’s Verification API and Encompass TPO Connect from ICE Mortgage Technology.

The branding may sound like a small interface change, but it addresses a larger issue in wholesale lending: lenders want consistent documentation across their broker networks without weakening the relationship between the broker and borrower.

A verification request from an unfamiliar company can create confusion or send the borrower back to the broker with questions. Argyle’s approach keeps the broker visible while giving the lender greater control over the verification provider, documentation format, and underwriting workflow.

“Wholesale is a part of the mortgage market we’ve wanted to serve well for a long time,” said John Hardesty, chief revenue officer at Argyle. “Brokers have earned the trust and relationships they build with borrowers, and now they can offer the same fast, direct-source verification experience under their own name while wholesale lenders extend Argyle across their broker networks.”

Lender Control, Broker Branding

Borrowers using the platform authorize connections to their payroll or bank accounts, allowing income, employment, and asset information to be retrieved from the source. When a direct payroll or banking connection is unavailable, brokers can offer document-based income verification through the same workflow.

Argyle is an authorized report supplier for Fannie Mae’s Desktop Underwriter validation service and an approved service provider supporting Freddie Mac’s Loan Product Advisor asset and income modeler. Eligibility for automated assessment and associated representations-and-warranties relief depends on the loan, data, and applicable GSE requirements.

Automated verification is not new to the wholesale channel. Truv, which Checkr agreed to acquire in August, also provides income, employment, and asset verification through Encompass TPO Connect. Argyle’s latest pitch is more specific: wholesale lenders can centralize the process without making the borrower experience appear lender-controlled.

For brokers competing on personal service while relying on lenders and third-party platforms to process the loan, this matters.

The model also gives wholesale lenders a way to standardize the documentation entering underwriting. Instead of receiving different verification products or manually collected documents from individual broker shops, a lender can offer one process across its network and generate broker-specific invitations without maintaining a separate setup for every company.

That reflects a broader competition for space inside the broker’s workflow. nCino recently added support for broker-originated loans to its retail mortgage platform, another example of technology providers and lenders trying to consolidate more TPO functions within a common system.

PwrTPO Joins The Rollout

PwrTPO, a wholesale and non-delegated correspondent lender, is identified as an early user of Argyle’s new experience.

“Consistency creates a smoother path from application to closing,” said Rebecca Erb, assistant vice president and product manager at PwrTPO. “When income, employment, and asset documentation comes back the same way every time, our underwriters spend less time on follow-up requests and more time clearing loans.”

Erb said including the broker’s name in borrower communications, reducing documentation, and offering verification at a lower cost creates value for PwrTPO and its broker partners.

Argyle’s broker-branded experience is available now through its API and Encompass TPO Connect.
