Down Payment Resource's Angel Romero Takes MISMO Tech Leadership Role
Romero brings lender and housing finance agency experience to industry discussions on technology standards and down payment assistance
Down Payment Resource (DPR) housing finance agency relationship manager Angel Romero has been named vice chair of the Technology Impact and Enablement Community of Practice at MISMO, the mortgage technology standards organization and subsidiary of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).
The community brings together mortgage industry stakeholders to examine emerging technologies and their impact on lending processes, data standards, and interoperability. Romero will help guide those discussions, bringing experience working with lenders, housing finance agencies, and down payment assistance providers.
Her appointment gives down payment assistance programs representation in discussions about mortgage technology standards. Those programs often carry different eligibility and funding requirements, creating additional complexity for lenders incorporating them into loan origination workflows.
“Down payment programs are already complex,” Romero said. “As the industry develops new technologies, standards and efficiencies, we have to make these programs more accessible, not more complicated. The way we do that is through technology and process.”
Romero joined DPR in 2023 after a decade at Cherry Creek Mortgage, where she served as assistant vice president, post-closing manager, and housing program expert. She helped implement DPR's technology at the lender and supported its expansion into underserved markets.
At DPR, Romero manages relationships with state and local housing finance agencies and other program providers, evaluates programs in the company's database, and works with partners to keep assistance programs integrated into mortgage workflows. She also holds MISMO's Associate MISMO Standards Professional certification.
“When I started DPR 18 years ago, the goal was to give the industry access to down payment programs in a standardized way and to do it through technology,” said DPR founder and CEO Rob Chrane. “Angel’s role with MISMO puts down payment programs at the table where the industry’s technology standards are being shaped.”
Romero's appointment brings firsthand experience implementing down payment assistance technology at the lender level into MISMO's broader work on mortgage technology and interoperability.
